SATURDAY 9/11 - We had a fabulous turnout today at the garage sale! Thank you so much to the dozens of families who reached out and donated items to the sale. It was an amazing outpouring of love and support, and a great success. Despite the heat, and a little unexpected drama, we had a great time visiting with friends and neighbors, and making some new friends too. And we made just enough money to pay some of Debbie's household bills for her. Thank you again, and please keep this family in your prayers over the next few weeks.
WEDNESDAY 9/8 - If you didn't see the home page, there is great news! Debbie entered into a temporary orders agreement in court yesterday, and the children were returned HOME last night! These orders are only for the next three weeks, pending the outcome of a criminal trial and another temporary orders hearing. Please continue to keep Debbie and the kids in your prayers, and join us this Saturday at the Steeplechase Clubhouse for what will be a CELEBRATORY GARAGE SALE from 8AM - 1PM! We need donated items to sell, and volunteers to help work the sale! Please email email@example.com or call Nicole at 832-922-3672 if you are able to help.
If your kids have any outgrown items, clothing is needed for the three children:
Sevannah: size 12/13 shoes, size 6 bottoms and tops
Brigdon: size medium or large boys tops, size medium or 8 bottoms
Quentin: size XL boys tops, size 14 Husky to 16 Husky bottoms
FRIDAY 9/3 - Finally, some good news! For the first time in almost three months, Debbie was able to speak with Quentin, Brigdon and Sevannah over the phone. They have been living in Utah with their father's parents. Debbie was overjoyed to finally speak with them. A court hearing for temporary orders will take place early next week, and Debbie hopes that the judge will order the children returned home to Houston. Debbie and their older siblings miss them desperately and cannot wait to be reunited with them!
In the meantime, we are planning for a HUGE Fundraising Garage Sale for Debbie and the children at the Steeplechase Clubhouse (located on Steepleway Blvd, just off of Jones Road) next Saturday, 9/11, starting at 8:00AM. We need donated items to sell, and volunteers to help work the sale! Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Nicole at 832-922-3672 if you are able to help.
SATURDAY 8/21 - We had a fabulous turnout for the garage sale yesterday and today! Thank you to everyone who donated items and/or was able to come out and support Debbie and the kids. We had an amazing event DESPITE the person who removed 27 signs that had put up to advertise the sale - what kind of a person would do such a thing???
The next HUGE GARAGE SALE will on Sept. 11th at the Steeplechase Clubhouse. We need donated items to sell and volunteers to help work the sale. Please email email@example.com if you would like to help!
We are still looking for a plumber (kitchen sink and 2 toilets have issues), gift cards for school clothing for the teenage boys, as well as a used Verizon phone and charger. Please call Nicole at 832-922-3672 if you can help with any of these items! Or to make a donation . . . . click the yellow button!
FRIDAY 8/20 - We are having a FUNDRAISING GARAGE SALE tomorrow morning (8/21) beginning at 8AM at 11211 Hambleton Way in Steeplechase. Please stop by and support Debbie if you can! We also will be having a charity lemonade stand, so stop by to donate, find a garage sale treasure, or just for a cool, refreshing drink!
Update on the kids: The temporary orders hearing has had to be rescheduled several times, as the other party has been unable to be served as of yet. Debbie is hoping that the case will come before the court within the next week or two. She still has not seen or spoken to them since the last day of school.
We still are looking for a plumber, school clothes and/or gift cards for clothing for the boys, and financial donations are always appreciated. Please see the How to Help page for other ways to assist. Thank you!
WEDNESDAY 8/11/10 - The court case has been filed and there is a hearing scheduled for next week. Hopefully Debbie and the children will have some good news to share soon! School starts August 23rd, so time is of the essence.
In the meantime, we have so many people to thank for their amazing generosity and support. Debbie is still without internet, but she would like to extend a big thank you to EVERYONE who has reached out with kind words, prayers and financial assistance! Thank you also to those of you who have stopped byto personally bring Debbie gift cards, food, school supplies and other donations. Also, a big thank you to those who were able to stop by this past Saturday and put in hours of HARD WORK helping to clear out Debbie's yard. It was a hot day and we had some amazingly dedicated workers!
Debbie and her "team" would like to send a HUGE thank you to Dr. Rick Hammond (the most amazing dentist in the world!) and J&K Air Conditioning and Heating for their unbelievably kind and generous assistance to Debbie and her family during this difficult time. We'd like to repay the favor by asking that you call on them for future needs if possible!
If you are in need of a GREAT dentist (the most painless and compassionate one we've ever met!), please call Dr. Hammond at 281-493-5471. They have beautiful offices located at Memorial and Eldridge. If you are in need of a GREAT, honest and trustworthy A/C company, please call J&K at 281-855-0100.
If you are still looking for ways to help, check out the How to Help page, or look below for information about needed school clothing for the boys. Debbie is still looking for help from a plumber (two toilets in need of assistance), and for a loaner vehicle for the next week or two. We also are collecting donations for a big garage sale that will take place in the next few weeks - please call 832-922-3672 if you have donations for this.
8/4/10 - GREAT NEWS! Thanks in great part to all of your support, help and contributions, a legal case has finally been filed to help bring some resolution to this family's situation! This is great news, but it is a long road. Debbie and the children still need our help until some temporary orders can be established, hopefully within the next few weeks.
Please see the How to Help page for ideas of what you can do, but here are a few new suggestions of her current needs:
If you have been looking for a way to help directly, Debbie's two teenage sons currently living at home with her could use some back-to-school items. They would greatly appreciate gift card to stores like Old Navy, Target, Walmart etc, or if you have teenagers that might have outgrown their clothing and are ready to donate:
For Tanner -
Jeans: 30 x 32, prefers straight slim fit, but not skinny jeans
Shirts: Mens' Small
Shoes: Size 9 - 9 1/2
For Torin -
Jeans: Size 16, also prefers straight let slim fit, but not skinny jeans
Mesh Athletic Shorts in a Men's Small (28-30)
Shirts: Men's Small or Boys XL
Shoes: Size 9
Both boys prefer no show socks. Both boys will need various school supplies for middle/high school:
Pens, pencils, notebooks, binders, dividers, highlighters, map pencils, etc.
Debbie also could use some help with home repair issues. The house is in serious need of some repair work. Please contact us if you are able to donate an hour to help Debbie with house/yardwork. She also is in need of a plumber if you happen to have those skills!
8/3/10 - New and easier way to donate! Just click the yellow button below and it will take you directly to a paypal page set up for a quick donation!
We are organizing a community garage sale to benefit Debbie and the kids, and have already been inundated with garage sale items. The proceeds will go to help Debbie, and we will continue to gather more items for the upcoming BIG sale that will take place soon.
The How to Help page has been updated with some new suggestions, including giftcards for back to school clothes.
The bank account was much harder to set up than we expected, but we are still trying. In the meantime, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Nicole at (832) 922-3672 if you would like to make a donation other than through paypal. She can give you a safe mailing address, or arrange to meet you.
We are still looking for a vehicle that someone could loan to Debbie for the next week or two. Please call Nicole at (832) 922-3672 if you know of someone with such a vehicle. Debbie said a Flintstones car would be great; she just needs a way to get around locally.
If funds are tight, an easy way to donate is to transfer an existing prescription to the Kroger pharmacy and donate the $25 gift card that you will recieve with a coupon. Coupons are available in the weekly Kroger circular in the stores (I also have stack of them and would be happy to bring you one if you need it!). This would help Debbie with future food needs, and won't cost you a penny!
Thank you again to all, and check back regularly for more updates.
